HOW WE STARTED
Back to the Rails is a small local business based in Fowey that has been established by a local family to help tackle the growing clothing problem in Cornwall and try to stop perfectly good clothing from being shipped up country.
The majority of all donated and discarded clothing is shipped to the midlands to main processing centres for charities or private companies that charities nominate, this is often resold for profit both in the UK and abroad to Africa or India.
Our goal is to stop the necessity for charities to use big businesses in dealing with their unsold and unsellable clothing and encourage them to use local businesses that benefit local people first.
We offer a doorstep clothing collection service that is free of charge allowing people to have their unwanted clothing collected hastle free from their house, we also work with charities locally in processing their unsold and unsellable clothing here in Cornwall.

Are you a Charity or CIC business?
No, we are neither, we are individuals trying to build a local family business that can offer jobs to local people.
Why not register as a Charity or CIC business?
We believe that in the capacity of a charity or CIC, we would not be able to work with charities or CIC’s, we are not here to compete with charities, we are here to help them!
Where do the profits go?
We are not predicting a NET profit in the business for a couple of years, all revenue is currently used to cover the overheads and allow us to increase our capacity, this will mean more jobs for local people and more help to local charities, schools and residents.
You are stopping Charities by depriving them of donations
We have done extensive research and a SWOT analysis on each charity and CIC to guage the impact of our business on them and have found that overall clothing is a problem rather than a golden solution to raising funds, most charities struggle with volunteers and this creates a bottleneck with donations, this means that donations cant be taken or they are taken and sold to a big business up country at no benefit to local people.
